MAY 2008 Moaning Cavern and Camping in Murphys, CA, Fri-Sun,, May 2-4, 2008 We are heading to the Moaning Cavern in Murphy, CA for cavern tour, zip lines, rappelling and just plain fun for everyone. We will be camping at a nearby campground for Friday and Saturday nights. This event will take place on May 2nd through 4th. I will be leaving from the peninsula on Friday afternoon to get to the campground and setup camp before dark. We will want to carpool due to parking limitations at the campground. If you can’t make it to the campground before 11pm on Friday it is recommended to come early on Saturday because they close the gate into the campground. Saturday we will spend at the Moaning Cavern doing all sorts of fun activities. If the cavern doesn’t interest you there are many other things to do in the area. The Calaveras Big Tree State Park is just up the road, and there are two wineries in the area. At Columbia State Historic Park they are having their annual Fireman’s Muster which include skill competitions and a parade. The campground is located at New Melones Lake, which has fishing, hiking and boating. I will be taking my four person tent, so those that don’t have camping gear, but can get a sleeping bag are welcome to a spot in my tent. Each person will be expected to help cover the cost of the camp site/s and to bring food items for community meals. The cost of one camp site per night is $16.00. I will figure out the food situation as the event gets closer. I have added some links below so you may check out the cavern and surrounding area. I will post additional information about this event in the weeks to come. This is a RSVP must event so that I can plan accordingly. We're a "smell the flowers" bunch, so this will be more of a stroll than run. The whole bay to breakers experience is a great one - starting with the massive food fight at the start line, continuing with the great bands and costumes along the way and finishing with the rewarding stop at "footstock." If you have never done this event, you're missing out. If you have, you know how incredible it is. Go to: http://www.ingbaytobreakers.com/race_information/generalinformation.html for all of the information you'll need. The BAF group will be in costume as can-can dancers for the ladies, men are encouraged to dress as our bartenders. Our costumes were red & black last year. Here are some costume ideas for you: http://www.phillyburbs.com/ladiescostumes/can.shtml (I believe this is the one that our costumes were modeled after). This is a huge event and it'll be impossible to spot balloons, so please contact ali_girl3 @ yahoo dot com if you're interested so that we can figure out a way to meet up P.S. You will want to take Bart or public transportation. The party starts blocks away from the Embarcadero Bart station, so I'd recommend that. ali_girl3 (at) yahoo (dot) com May Sunset Sunday Happy Hour in Burlingame, Sunday, May 25, 2008 Steelhead Brewing Company, 333 California Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010 http://www.steelheadbrewery.com/burlingame.htm This has been a popular place for some of our social events. It's centrally located on the peninsula and easy, across the street, access from CalTrain. Join us for drink, snacks, whatever, chatting AND POOL PLAYING! Yep, they have a beautiful back room (all the way in the back of the restaurant) that is full of pool tables. We will meet in there and I will have some blue balloons so you can find us!
